Bullseye!  How To Hit The Bullseye Easily At The Basketball Court

Bullseye! My 2 favorite sports, ice hockey, basketball and when I think of both these sports I do think of a bullseye.  Becuase both sports are about putting an object into a net!    Yesterday I decided to go over and shoot some baskets at the courts near my place.

Now, the goal of basketball is to get the ball into the basket!  From the Free Throw Line it is 15 feet to the basket!   I haven’t played basketball in many years and it was soon very clear that my skills were not at the same level as when I played the game.  Frustration clearly was setting in. I was missing every shot from the free throw line.  It was not fun.

How did I hit the bullseye?

Here is what did I do to have success at practicing Free Throws!

•I moved way closer – right under the net
•I practiced the skill of shooting – the ball began to go in the net easily
•I began to feel what I was doing correctly each time the ball went in the net
•It was beginning to feel natural
•I was having fun
•And I had success
•I was averaging 8 shots in out of 10!

So what does this have to do with Health and Fitness and Your goals?   Everything!  How many times do we set goals to exercise, reduce our weight, eat better, get more sleep, drink more water and quit before we have success?  Maybe if we began to see the bullseye from a much closer distance and practice the skill before we move on we would feel better about the success we have.  And maybe that success would make us an expert at that closer distance so we could move back a few inches and be willing to begin again to create more success, maybe even bigger successes.

What can you do today to move closer to the bullseye?  Example of moving closer for success – Drinking More Water:

•Rather than setting out to drink 8 glasses of water per day
•Move closer to the bullseye by committing to drinking a glass of water with each meal
•You will have success by increasing your water consumption by 3 glasses per day
•Once you become an expert on 3 glasses of water per day, now add 1 glass of water when you get up in the morning and 1 before bed
•You will now be successful at increasing your water intake to 5 glasses per day
